Youth Football Safety Guidelines Updated for 2026
The National Youth Football Safety Council has released updated guidelines for the 2026 season, and GIC is committed to implementing all recommendations across our events and showcases.
**Key Changes for 2026:**
**1. Contact Limitations**
- Practice contact time reduced by 20% for all age divisions
- Full-contact drills limited to 2 days per week during the season
**2. Equipment Standards**
- All helmets must meet the updated NOCSAE 2026 standards
- Mandatory mouth guard inspection before every event
**3. Heat Safety Protocols**
- Mandatory hydration breaks every 20 minutes when temperatures exceed 80°F
- Events automatically modified or postponed when WBGT exceeds 86°F
**4. Concussion Management**
- Baseline cognitive testing now recommended for all athletes 10U and older
- Updated return-to-play protocol requires minimum 10-day recovery period
